Whew! What a Weekend!

Posted 27 April 2013 by

For the times when we wonder why we are in this crazy business, there are weekends like the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (held this year on April 20 and 21). It is truly a weekend of wonder where we meet and greet people who love books and reading and bookstores … as much as we do. We talked with readers, writers, and people who are creating wonderful events and venues for the written word. It was a complete joy and the reason we love our business.

And then there are our friends. They come out of the woodwork to be a part of the festival, sell for us, and help us create an extraordinary weekend of community. We are extremely grateful to the volume of volunteers who come to join us in this undertaking for the weekend.

And now that we have recovered from the weekend, Maryelizabeth, Jeff, and I are preparing for next week when we will journey to NYC to receive the Raven award from the Mystery Writers of American at their annual Edgar Award Banquet on Thursday, May 2. We are extremely honored to be receiving this award and are looking forward to our trip when we will also have the opportunity to visit with many friends in our industry.

But wait … there is more … and we cannot believe it. We will be celebrating 20 years of being in the book business on Saturday, May 11. Our San Diego store will host 20 authors representing our many reading interests … many who have been our friends and colleagues since we opened our doors on Saturday, May 8, 1993, many who are new friends we can’t wait to meet!

I will fill you in as the celebrations continue …
